Human Resource Development Leadership
The faculty has approval to offer the following courses in the academic years
1999-2000 and 2000-2001; however, not all courses are taught each semester or
summer session. Students should consult the Course
Schedule to determine which courses and topics will be offered during a
particular semester or summer session. The Course Schedule may also
reflect changes that have been made to the courses listed here since this catalog
was published.
Classes meet from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM on Saturdays.
Human Resource Development Leadership: HRD
398R. Master's Report.
Preparation of a report to fulfill the requirement for the master's degree under
the report option. The equivalent of three lecture hours a week for one semester. Offered on the letter-grade basis only. Prerequisite:
Graduate standing in human resource development leadership and consent of the
graduate adviser.
Accounting: ACC
381M. Financial Accounting Issues in Business
Decisions.
An integrative and intensive examination of financial accounting, with emphasis
on management's alternative reporting strategies and investors' decisions.
Prerequisite: Graduate standing, and Business Administration 384T or the
equivalent.
Curriculum and Instruction: EDC
385G. Seminar: Program Development and
Research.
Advanced investigations of selected topics and problems in curriculum theory,
program design, and research design at one of the following levels: elementary
school, secondary school, higher education, all-level. May be repeated for credit
when the topics vary. Only one of the following may be counted unless the topics
vary: Curriculum and Instruction 185G, 385G, Educational Administration 385G.
Some topics are offered on the credit/no credit basis only; these are identified
in the Course Schedule. Prerequisite: Graduate standing and consent
of instructor.
Topic 12: Collection and Analysis of Organizational Data.
Using their own organizations as laboratories, participants learn how to define a useful focus for data gathering, identify appropriate sources of data, and analyze and present data efficiently and in ways that are useful to others in the organization. Students practice interviewing and observation, analysis of documents, development of questionnaires, and other strategies for data collection and analysis.

Science.

Topic 14: Managing Human Resource Flows.
Topic 15: The Context of Human Resource Management.

385. Current Issues in Strategic
Management.

Topic 48: Strategic Management and Marketing.
Issues related to effective management of training: assessing the need for training, choosing between in-house training and training by an external vendor, and selecting criteria and procedures for training evaluation. Additional prerequisite: Admission to the master's degree program in human resource development leadership.
386. Current Issues in Operations Management.
Strategic problems, policies, models, and concepts for the design and control of new or existing operations systems. May be repeated for credit when the topics vary.
