Employment at the UT Learning Center
Applications for these positions accepted year-round, but priority consideration for positions will be given to applicants who submit their completed applications by the specified deadlines when posted.
Available Positions
We welcome new tutors! Although our hiring is primarily limited to two periods during the year (mid-spring for the following fall semester; mid-fall for the following spring semester) we are always happy to review your application.
If you are interested in becoming a tutor, you must first meet the following qualifications:
- currently enrolled UT student, with at least one semester completed as a UT student
- overall UT GPA of 3.00
- have taken the course(s) you want to tutor and earned a grade of at least B, OR
- have equivalent course credit, OR be familiar with UT course content and format
- be able to communicate clearly
- must be willing to take a competency exam in the course(s) you want to tutor
- must be able to participate in required paid training sessions
- must be willing to tutor at least 10 hours per week (although you are not guaranteed 10 hours/week)
- must be available for at least two semesters
Pay starts at $11 per hour. Your hours are flexible - you work when it suits your schedule.

Peer Academic Coaches take private appointments as requested by peers for weekly input on how to study effectively for UT courses. Common topics include note-taking, preparing for tests, test-taking strategies, goal setting, time management, and reading efficiency. Training is provided, and the program is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association. Pay starts at $11 an hour and these hours are flexible - you work when it suits your schedule.
Coaches also typically work about 5 hours per week in the UT Learning Center front office informing students of relevant UTLC services. Office hours are paid at $8 an hour, and the office is staffed from 8-5 M-F. Office exceptions are occasionally made for students also working as a UTLC tutor, UTLC group educator, or FIG mentor.
