August 2009: New programming available for classes, FIGs, and student groups
This fall, we are debuting a new line-up of outreach programs. Topics include: Time & Procrastination, Multitasking & Mindfulness, Metacognition, and Growing Your Talent. Together, these programs create a powerful curriculum for academic success.

March 2009: Learning Center hosts Job Fair
Are you a full-time student looking for employment at UT in Fall 2009? Then come to the UT Learning Center Job Fair on Monday, March 30 at 5:30pm in Jester Auditorium (A121A).
Hear from some of our 250+ student educators about the experience of working at the Learning Center. Our professional staff will also be available to answer your questions.

February 2009: Learning Center hosts events at ExploreUT
Find out more about lifelong learning at ExploreUT - "the biggest open house in Texas" - on Saturday, March 7, 2009.
First, learn about the transition from high school to college at noon in JES A315A. Learning Specialist Marty Maas, along with Peer Academic Coaches Britnee Bennett and Liz Moskowitz, will talk about what skills students need to master in their freshman year and how to get the most out of the UT experience.
Then stop by the southeast corner of Gregory mall (just outside Jester) to meet some of our Peer Educators and play a Jeopardy-style game with questions on topics such as study strategies, memory and motivation.

September 2008: Free tutoring credits now available to all studentsIn keeping with the Division of Student Affairs' emphasis on the students' complete learning experience, the UT Learning Center is committed to extending services to all students who seek tutoring by creating more accessible and inclusive learning opportunities for them. To that end, the Center is now providing free tutoring credits to every UT student who registers for Appointment Tutoring. Each credit can be used to book a private appointment with a UT Learning Center tutor.

Dr. Elizabeth Moreno has been selected by the College Reading and Learning Association as this year's recipient of the Karen G. Smith Special Recognition Award. This award is given annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the Association during the last five years and, by extension, to the field of college reading and learning assistance. With her expertise as the Managing Editor of the Journal of College Reading and Learning, she has helped to open the journal to new ideas that inspire and guide future studies; and with her continued efforts, the journal remains one of the most scholarly publications in the field. The staff of the UT Learning Center extends its hearty congratulations to Dr. Moreno.
David Livasy and Sarah Hudson were announced as the winners of the Patricia Heard Outstanding Student Educator award. The award recognizes student educators who have made a significant impact on the UT Learning Center through outstanding dedication, competence, conscientious performance, and excellent customer service. The award includes a $250 stipend and recognition at the 2009 Student Affairs Leadership Awards ceremony held on Friday, April 17, in the Etter B. Harbin Alumni Center.

Three Supplemental Instruction (SI) leaders of the UT Learning Center received teaching awards from the Department of Mathematics. Eric Staron (left) and Brandy Guntel (right) received the Frank Gerth III Teaching Excellence Award. Heather Van Ligten (center) received the Department of Mathematics Outstanding Teaching Award. Eric, Brandy and Heather also taught math Final Exam Reviews for the UTLC last spring, and each received high evaluation scores from students attending the class.
Darcy Barrick, Assistant Director of the UT Learning Center, is the recipient of the 2008 UT Staff Excellence Award. Darcy directs the Academic Counseling program at the Learning Center, and was recognized for her invaluable contributions to the university's continued success.
The UT Learning Center has been selected to receive the 2007 National College Learning Center Association/Frank L. Christ Outstanding Learning Center Award. The annual award gives national recognition to work accomplished by learning centers and fosters their future growth and development. The UT Learning Center, a component of the Division of Student Affairs, helped more than 13,000 students last year with tutoring services and academic counseling.
The Eyes of Texas, an anonymous campus organization dedicated to unselfish devotion to the University, has chosen ten new honorees for The Eyes of Texas Excellence awards for spring semester 2005. Student members of the organization select honorees who have made an outstanding contribution to student life at The University of Texas. The award is given to ten deserving University faculty, administration, or staff members each semester.
