Signature Course Support: Training
Before the start of the semester, TA's attend an orientation where they are introduced to the concept of Signature Courses and then learn about their role and responsibilities as well the additional support and training that is offered.
After the first week of classes, Signature Course TA's attend a 1.5 hour training that is based on topics of interest solicited from orientation. In Fall 2008, topics at this first training included: Developing Rapport and Setting Expectations, Creating Learning Objectives, Classroom Assessment Techniques, Managing Discussion, and others.
About half-way through the semester, Signature Course TA's attend another 1.5 hours of training based on issues which emerged during UTLC observations and mid-semester feedback from students attending TA-led sessions. In Fall 2008, topics at this second training included: Making Sense of Student Evaluations, Promoting Student to Student Dialogue and Engagement, Responding to Student Writing, and others.
