How much does it cost?
Drop-In Tutoring is a free service to all currently enrolled UT students.
What can I Expect?
The Drop-In Center is an open environment for students to study entry-level Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry (in the summer, Mathematics only)
We offer free tutoring to all UT students in these areas. The volume of Center usage can vary, and influences the type and amount of assistance we can offer.
* Students in the Drop-In Center are encouraged to work alone or with other students on their coursework. When a tutor's help is required, students should raise their hands for assistance.
* Most of the time, tutors are not able to remain with one student for longer than two or three minutes. In fact, they are trained and instructed NOT to assist any one student for an extended period of time.
* Tutors do not simply provide answers for graded coursework. Instead, tutors support the development of the skills necessary to complete each assignment.
Students seeking more extended, individualized help should consider setting up a one-hour private tutoring session through our Appointment Tutoring program.
What is the environment like?
The Drop-In Center is a large open room partitioned into three areas for each of the respective subjects tutored: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry (in the summer, Mathematics only). Students are invited to sit in groups according to the course which they are studying. Pencils and scratch paper are provided, and students are encouraged to use any of our numerous whiteboards. Calculators may also be "checked out" in exchange for a UT ID card.
Can I get help with my homework?
While tutors are happy to help you with the concepts which underlie your homework problems, they are typically not comfortable with working to a final solution the exact problem assigned to you for course credit.
