Advising Center

College of Natural Sciences

 

 

The Transitional Advising Center provides comprehensive advising services for students in transition who are enrolled in the College of Natural Sciences in the biological sciences, pre-computer sciences, and students who have not yet chosen a major, including pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-vet and pre-pharmacy freshmen. Our mission is to optimize students’ success and assist them in reaching their academic goals by providing quality guidance for choice of major and degree planning and by serving as a referral resource for career and student life concerns.

Graduate Assistant

Required Qualifications:

Must be a currently enrolled graduate student (taking at least 9 hours). Preference given to students in Master’s and Ph.D. programs in the College of Education.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. A desire to work with new students

2. Ability to utilize concepts of student development in program planning, advising and administrative duties

3. Experience with Macintosh computers and the ability to learn applications quickly

4. Experience working with a diverse student population

Terms of Employment:

1. Four-(begin June 1) or seven-(begin Sept. 1) month position with possibility of reappointment for January - May, 2005

2. Half-time position at salary of $950 per month

3. Hours to be scheduled between 8-12, 1-5, Monday-Friday. Some evening and prescheduled weekend hours

Responsibilities include:

1. Advising first year students

2. Assisting with planning, implementation, and evaluation of freshman programs

3. Other duties as assigned
