Graduate Assistantship for MBA Orientation
McCombs School of Business, The University of Texas at Austin

The MBA Program sponsors an extensive orientation/pre-term program for the incoming students in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program. The MBA Program office is seeking a Graduate Assistant to assist with all orientation programs to begin January 2009 and end August 2009. In this capacity, the Graduate Assistant will serve as resources for new students and assist UT staff with planning and implementation of the orientation program. The Graduate Assistant will be supervised by and work closely with the Director of Student Services. This position will be housed in the MBA Program Office.

Graduate Assistant Job Description
Programming and Administrative Responsibilities
• Manage all logistics including: program schedule, room reservations, funding, budget, marketing, participant communication, registration, coordinating meals, selecting volunteers and many additional areas.
• Assist with the compilation of Orientation materials (i.e. mailings, packets, etc.).
• Attend all Orientation sessions, meetings, and events.
• Assist all presenters at scheduled programs, meetings, and sessions throughout orientation.
• Recruit volunteers from the MBA 2nd year class to assist with Orientation programs and events.
• Remain flexible at all times. Last minute as well as major programmatic changes may occur.


Required Qualifications:

• Must be a currently enrolled graduate student (taking at least 9 hours). Preference given to students in Master’s and Ph.D. programs in the College of Education.

Preferred Qualifications:
• A desire to work with new students.
• Ability to utilize concepts of student development in program planning, advising and administrative duties.
• Experience working with a diverse student population.
• Be detail oriented, able to work independently, able to multi-task and able to work with multiple entities.
• Have some budget experience.
• Exhibit leadership potential and a commitment to the mission of McCombs orientation program.

• Exhibit strong interpersonal and group presentation skills.
• Possess the following personal qualities: initiative, motivation, responsibility, enthusiasm, team player, punctuality.

Terms of Employment
• Employment Period: Mid-January 2009 through August 2009.
• Hours: 20 hours per week during standard work hours (8 AM-5PM, some weekend and evening hours may be required.) Weekly hours flexible dependent on work load.
• Monthly gross salary $1,000 plus benefits (pending budget approval).

he Graduate Assistant will serve as a member of the Orientation Planning Committee which is comprised of representatives from each of the areas within the McCombs School of Business that participate in orientation activities.
• MBA Orientation Week Responsibilities – weekly hours will increase during the designated orientation time of approximately August 10th – 26th. The Graduate Assistant will be expected to work during this additional time.
