Brief biography of Juan C. González
Dr. Juan González is the Vice President for
Student Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. He oversees a large
portfolio of services to 50,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
Before
coming to UT Austin, Dr. González served for two years
as Vice President of Student Affairs at Arizona State University, where
he was responsible for oversight of comprehensive key services to 55,000
students. Prior to that,
Dr. González
was Vice President for Student Affairs at Georgetown University in Washington,
D.C. from 2000 to 2003
and also served in the same capacity at California Polytechnic State
University, San Luis Obispo from 1994 to 2000 and California State University,
San Bernardino from 1990 to 1994. From 1986-87, he was at UCLA’s
Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) as a post-doc studying strategies
for keeping low-income and minority students in college.
He has served
as a consultant to a variety of universities regarding assessment and
integration of learning outcomes into services and programs.
He has served as a consultant or as an advisory board member to the California
Post-Secondary Commission (consultant), Tomas Rivera Research Center
in Claremont, California (consultant), American Council on Education
and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Leadership
Development Forum (consultant), Advisory Board member to “Preparing
College Students for a Diverse Democracy Project” at the University
of Michigan School of Education.
Dr. González's degrees include
a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Illinois, a
master’s in Bilingual-bicultural
Education from the University of Texas in San Antonio, and an undergraduate
degree in Latin American Studies from Texas Tech. |
