Welcome to the Student Government website!
Student Government serves as the official voice of students to the UT administration, the Board of Regents, and the Texas Legislature. Come be a part of that voice.
Our mission is to earnestly represent the interests of students and increase student decision-making power, to improve campus life through the creation and continuation of viable and effective student services, to preserve and protect the traditions and legends of the University, and to support students and student organizations in their academic and community endeavors.
The application to be the student serving as a non-voting member on the UT System Board of Regents is attached to this email. The applications are due Friday, November 14 by 5pm to the Student Government Office (SSB 4.206). The term for the student regent is June 1, 2008 to May 31, 2009. If you have any questions, please contact Student Body Vice President Frankie Shulkin (fshulkin@austin.utexas.edu).
Based on a bill passed in the last Texas legislative session, non-voting student representatives now serve on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and its five subcommittees. Applications are due Friday, November 14 by 5pm to the Student Government Office (SSB 4.206). The term for all of these appointments is June 1, 2009 to May 31, 2010. Please contact Student Body Vice President Frankie Shulkin (fshulkin@austin.utexas.edu) with any questions.
Student Government's First Forums of the year with the Legislative Relations Agency (LRA) are coming up on October 20 and 27, both at 7 p.m. in UTC 3.122. The first forum will be about the top ten percent admissions law in Texas (HB 588) and its effect on the University of Texas at Austin. The second forum will focus on Tuition Funding. Both forums are going to include a brief informational, interactive segment for students to learn about the issues, followed by a long period of open discussion when students can express their opinions and listen to those of their peers. Neither of these events will have a panel, because we really want this to be a student dialogue that encourages everyone to participate rather than just listen. Light refreshments will also be provided at both events.
The assembly will meet every Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. in the Glenn Maloney Room (SSB G1.310) during the Long Session. Meetings are open to the public.
It’s never too late to join Student Government! For more information about getting involved, please contact Communications Director Chelsea Fosse (chelseafosse@austin.utexas.edu).
