Gregory Knapp's research, books, and teaching focus on culture, environment, and change, especially in Latin America. He has long been interested in resource stewardship as conditioned by institutions, cultural goals, and natural conditions and hazards (adaptive dynamics); and in identity, identity politics, and the (sometimes disastrous) involvement of this politics with territory.
