UT Tower Wordmark

Notes from Digital Video Producers Meeting on
Dec. 7, 2001

Quinn Stewart demonstrated several video files and the indexes that had been created for them using SMIL technology (a product of Real). To learn how to use SMIL check out the tutorial he's created. For examples of how GSLIS uses SMIL visit their SMILab. Discussion followed.

Bob Nagy requested we create a report of some kind describing the "best practices" on treating different types of videos. For instance, describing the video clip (VHS tape source, dv tape source, talking head, talking head with minimal movement, lecture video with full motion, etc), and then describing the steps taken to produce the final video. What process did you use to encode the clip, what were the compression settings, etc. Discussion followed and I will collect this information (sent via e-mail or through Blackboad), compile it and than make it available to the group.

Our regular meeting room (FAC 228D) is not available for February.
