Mark Rogers from the College of Communication demonstrated the VBrick Systems they are installing in several of their classrooms. Vbrick is a real-time encoder and streams the content live. The output format is MPEG4. The content is captured and in the future will be distributed via EtherneTV system. Their goal in this project is to easily create digital archives of lectures and distribute them.
Andy Greer of EIS (Enterprise Information Services) talked about Flash video. Videos of that format have been added to the Web Video Guidelines Compression Examples. Generally, they look good and are smaller files. It was suggested that workflow be added to the Guidelines. That will be taken into consideration.
Mike Harvey won a Lone Star Emmy for a PSA he worked on while at News 8. Congratulations Mike!
John Smith from the CIT is leaving for Hawaii at the beginning of January! We all wish him good luck in his endeavors there!
