| Where can students find information about housing? |
Your student's living environment can have a profound impact on his or her personal and educational development. The residence halls at The University of Texas at Austin not only furnish convenient and comfortable living accommodations, but also provide and promote a means through which the student can define and achieve personal and educational goals.
Please note a separate application must be completed for housing. Applications can be made online at the Division of Housing and Food Service or requested by mail at P.O. Box 7666, Austin, Texas, 78713-7666. Call 512-471-3136 for more information. Hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Students who have applied for housing can use the online roommate matching software, "The Profiler," to look for a roommate. Parents can also request authorization from their student to view their housing bill with the "eProxy" system.
Once a student has an on-campus housing contract, he or she will receive a building and room assignment in July in addition to information on what to bring and where and when to check in.
Should on-campus housing not be an option, there are several sources of information about off-campus housing. The Division of Housing and Food Service, located in Kinsolving Residence Hall at the corner of W. Dean Keeton Street and Whitis Avenue, maintains a limited listing of off-campus housing options, including privately-operated residence halls. Apartment guides are available in several locations around campus and apartment complexes advertise in The Daily Texan, the student newspaper. Several apartment locator services are listed in the telephone directory as well as a listing of apartment complexes.

| Can students still apply to live on campus? |
Most students who want to live on campus have already received a housing contract by August. If you have not received a contract there is still time! Apply for housing online and contact the DHFS Reservation office at 512-471-3136 during the hours of 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. |
|
| When will students find out their housing assignments, and when can they move in? |
In July, room assignment packets are mailed to students. The packet includes information about roommates, assigned housing locations and details regarding moving into the residence halls. Beginning August 1, students may check the Web to find a specific schedule for housing check-in. Students who wish to move in prior to August 25 may move as early as 4 p.m., August 22, at a cost of $35 per night. |

| How does the on-campus mean plan work? |
Students will need their student ID cards to access their meal plans when they check in. The ID card magnetic strip informs these systems of who is using the card.
Students receive $1200 in Dine In Dollars and $300 in Bevo Bucks. Dine In Dollars is the residential meal plan that provides students living in the residence halls with residence hall nourishment for the academic year. They are used in DHFS operated locations and receive a 10% discount. Bevo Bucks is a prepaid account students use to purchase food, goods and services at participating merchants, both on and off campus. They are required for printing in computer labs on campus and can be used for laundry and vending in the halls. For more information visit www.utexas.edu/student/bevobucks/.

| What if students have roommate problems? |
It is not uncommon for roommates, even the best of friends, to experience conflict during the year. Often the conflict is a result of not communicating or addressing issues. Students who experience roommate problems are encouraged to discuss the issue with their roommate. Roommates can review “roommate success” resources on the Web from the “Current Student” pages of the DHFS Web site for tips on developing a healthy relationship. Other resources of assistance are the Resident Assistant or Peer Arbitration Leaders; student volunteers trained to handle peer conflict mediations, and the Counseling and Mental Health Center (512-471-3515 or www.utexas.edu/student/cmhc) and the Telephone Counseling and Referral Service (512-471-CALL).

| What if a student becomes ill? |
Payment of the mandatory Medical Services Fee allows students to see University Health Services (UHS) healthcare providers during regular weekday hours with no office visit fees. However, there are various charges for many services and procedures used to diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries. A small “after-hours” charge is assessed for visits to the UHS Urgent Care clinic after 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and during weekend hours. Additionally, students will incur a “no show” charge for appointments that are not cancelled at least two hours in advance. Charges are generally much lower than charges for comparable services elsewhere.
UHS Advice Line nurses are available 24-hours a day, every day of the year at 512-475-NURSE (6877) for students wanting self-care advice for an illness or injury or wanting guidance about whether: self-care, a UHS visit, or going to a local emergency room is most appropriate for their symptoms. For specific information about UHS medical and educational services, hours, medical staff, etc., go to www.utexas.edu/student/health or telephone 512-471-4955. UHS is located in the Student Services Building at 100 W. Dean Keeton Street.
For more specific information about services, telephone 512-471-4955. University Health Services is located in the Student Services Building, 100 W. Dean Keeton Street. |

| What information can you give students about student health insurance? |
Many students are covered under their parents' health insurance policies up to a certain age. Parents should check with their insurance agent or employer to determine coverage. For those students not covered under another policy, MEGA Life and Health Insurance Company underwrites a student health insurance plan endorsed by the University of Texas for UT Austin students. Information about this insurance program can be obtained by contacting the on-campus insurance representative at 512-471-1040 or by visiting the UHS Cashier Insurance Office (SSB 2.106B). |
