Who
are TIP Students? |

|
TIP brings together a collection of academically-motivated students representing a
diverse array of academic interests and career goals within the College of Liberal
Arts and College of Natural Sciences. Over forty different majors in the two colleges are represented. |

| |
Doan Y Dao, Biochemistry (BS), attended Milby High School in Houston, Texas
and placed first in the 2002 AP Chemistry and Algebra II Gulf Coast Texas Alliance
in Math and Science Competition. He was a Joint Admission Medical Program
(JAMP) scholarship winner. Doan worked as a research assistant with Professor John
McDevitt’s High Temperature Superconductor Research Group. Doan was also a
TIP Academic Peer Mentor. Currently, Doan is beginning his first year at Southwestern Medical School. |

Alma Nidia, a Government and International Business major, is one of only two
students at the University who received the coveted Temple Scholarship. Alma was highlighted campus-wide through the First-Year Student Journal. Alma is also in Liberal Arts Honors and is currently chairing Teach for America. |

Dung “Peter” Nguyen was valedictorian of Abraham Lincoln High School, Port Arthur, Texas. Dung was awarded a Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP) scholarship. Peter is currently attending Medical School at UT Houston. |

| Isacc Chavez, Olaide Ashimi, Maria Mejorado, Daniel Palmer, Jon Ubelhor, Marcus Banks, Kimberly Timm, Adrian Passdar-Shirazi, Sam Le, Jesus Correa, Lonnie Bean, Jerry James, Abrefi-Kete Asare, Adam Nevarez, Deva Catsbaril, Lacey Lehmann, Denish Patel, Charles Lucier, April Narvaez, Gabriel Solis, Zaid Hassan, Ewaen Woghiren, Robyn Taylor, Krystle Luna, Hosna Tazehzadeh, Rajesh Peddaiahgari, Christa Schelter, Sasha Simon, Ashley Lamb, William Chau, Falil Oritola are all former TIP students who have become TIP-FY Academic Peer Mentors. |

Patrick Adam Gonzalez, a government major in the College of Liberal Arts has earned University Honors each of his semesters at UT. He is one of first two Liberal
Arts sophomores selected to be a TIP mentor after his freshman year. Patrick has
participated in community service activities in his hometown, Welasco, primarily
working with children. He's been a mentor volunteer for the Boys and Girls Club,
working with troubled children. He has taught young children in catechism. He has also volunteered at the Valley Nature Center in south Texas. |

Daisy Contreras, James Falcon, Miguel Izquierdo, Mait Patel, Veronica Villarreal, Leticia Cantu, Cynthia Roland, Antoine Pham, Sarah Falcon, Doan Dao, Vernica Horvath, Jarad Levin, Peter Nguyen, Ruth Travion, Yanett Anaya, Hannaise Cruz and Laide Ashimi are currently attending Medical School. |

| Abe
Garcia, Taft High School, began UT as a PENS student in Fall 2000. He has
been a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Alpha Phi Sigma,
which is a pre-med honor society. He was also accepted into the Transatlantic
Science Student Exchange Program, and is studying in Santiago De Compostela, Spain
for a semester. Abraham has maintained a 3.4 GPA, and hopes to continue to Graduate
School. |

| Santos Gonzales who was a TIP student and then a TIP-FY Academic Peer Mentor is now attending Law School at UT Austin. Santos is currently competing in the Miss Texas contest. |
