IP Profiles

One of the features that makes the Texas IP unique is that students have the freedom to designate a particular topic and receive a corresponding academic credential. So while the University of Texas doesn't have a "Medical Ethics" degree, Texas IP students can nevertheless minor in "Medical Ethics," or another topic they've proposed that's been approved by our faculty committee.

There are two ways to choose an area of study. The first is to select one of several Texas IP topics. A second option allows students to designate their own topic and design their own topic of courses, subject to faculty approval.

Students who've settled on a topic write a Texas IP Proposal that justifies the selection on personal and academic grounds. In their proposal, students select at least three relevant courses and explain their relevance to the proposed plan of study. These courses will form their topic area.

Students should read "Selecting a Topic ," linked on the right, before writing their Texas IP Proposal.
