Choosing
a Focus of Study
With the Texas IP, students
shape an interdisciplinary plan that's uniquely
suited to their own interests. Students identify
a topic they'd like to know more about and then
study it from the vantage point of several different
disciplines. Students work with a Texas IP adviser
to identify courses that address that topic. This
coursework constitutes their topic area.
Prior
to enrolling in their topic area, students complete
a two-course Critical Thinking and Critical Writing
foundation. A senior Capstone Seminar completes
their courses. In the Capstone, students expand
on what they've learned in their studies by identifying
and addressing an important gap in knowledge in
their topic of interest. With the guidance of
their Capstone professor, students research their
topic and present their results at the Capstone
symposium.
For more information on choosing
a topic and developing a topic, see the topics
page.
