Did you know there is a natural oasis right here on campus?
Waller Creek is an urban watershed that runs from North Austin through the city and campus into Lady Bird Lake downtown. Even though it's in the middle of the city, the creek is home to a great diversity of wildlife. From the Great Blue Heron to the Roseate Skimmer Dragonfly, many types of animals rely on the creek habitat for survival.
But being an urban watershed means that Waller Creek suffers many pollution problems too. Trash from the streets washes down storm drains and into the creek. Sometimes people even dump large items into the creek so they don't have to pay for disposal. This pollution can adversely affect the wildlife, water quality, and beauty of Waller Creek.
What can you do?
Participate in the Waller Creek Cleanup! The cleanup is held twice a year and is sponsored by Environmental Health and Safety and the Texas Natural Science Center.

Thanks to all who participated in the
Waller Creek Cleanup Saturday, Nov. 12!
Our hard working volunteers picked up 46 bags of trash (36 regular trash, 10 recyclables) for a total of 340 pounds. Some of the more interesting items included a shopping cart, saw horses, and a large number of knives.
