Tour TMM with Your Cell Phone! - Sponsored by Tokyo Electron America
Use your cell phone to create your personal tour of the Texas Memorial Museum! The cell phone tour system is sponsored by Tokyo Electron America and is as easy as dialing 512-895-9157 and following the easy prompts. Access information on 29 exhibit highlights, plus general information about the Texas Natural Science Center. And don't forget to record your comments!
Numbered identifier signs placed next to selected items in the Museum’s exhibits alert visitors that there is an audio that corresponds to that item. Visitors dial the tour number given, then enter the item number to hear about that item.
Visitors may remain connected throughout their visit or hang up and call back as desired. They may listen to exhibit item descriptions in any order.
Since visitors use their own cell phones, there is no equipment for them to buy or lease when they visit the Museum. The only cost they incur is their phone minutes.
For the Museum, there is no audio equipment to check-in/check-out, update, replace or repair. The Museum also captures valuable feedback by asking visitors to leave comments right over the phone.
To create and/or update the tour, the Museum’s staff members simply call a unique phone number to record information on exhibit items, just like recording voice mail. Or they upload existing audio files (interviews, sound effects, songs) into a specific prompt number.
The cell phone tour system has become so popular, TNSC is seeking funding to maintain and expand it, adding a Spanish translation and text messaging capabilities.
Thank you to Tokyo Electron America for helping sponsor Texas Memorial Museum’s Guide by Cell program.
