Join us for Explore UT, a campus-wide event described as the "Biggest Open House in Texas!" Visitors of all ages have the opportunity to experience a variety of programs that are engaging and inspiring.

Booths

11:00 am–5:00 pm - Amazing Arthropods
Explore the world of insects and other arthropods. Get a glimpse at the diversity of species represented by this single animal phylum. See displays and live animals including roaches, scorpions, tarantulas, vinegaroons, tail-less whip scorpions and more.

11:00 am–5:00 pm - Fossil Dig
Learn what it’s like to be a paleontologist by searching for fossils in our dig pit. Find casts of fossils from animals that once roamed Texas including Paluxysaurus, the Texas State Dinosaur, and a Columbian mammoth.

11:00 am–5:00 pm - Fossil Identifications
Bring your fossil finds to the Paleo Lab for identification by our paleontologists. Learn about the science of paleontology, talk with paleontologists and see how fossils are properly prepared, catalogued and handled.

11:00 am–5:00 pm - Seashell Secrets
Found a shell on the beach? How about right here in Austin? Sea creatures with shells have lived in Texas for millions of years. Come learn how ancient and modern shells tell us about life in the sea.

1:00 pm–5:00 pm - Fun Fish Facts
See a diversity of fishes from the Gulf of Mexico and discover fun and interesting facts about each.

12:00, 2:00, & 4:00 pm - Meet a Fossil Preparator
See the "tools of the trade" and learn how fossils are cleaned, repaired and made ready for exhibit, research and teaching.

12:00–12:40 pm - Dragons of the Deep: Marine Molluscs of Proto-Texas
100 million years ago, much of Texas was covered by the sea. Which molluscs roamed those seas? What did they eat? Were there colossal squids? Investigate the Texas Memorial Museum's fossil collection in search of molluscs and unravel their life stories.

1:00–1:40 pm - Coyotes and Foxes and Wolves, Oh My!
Texas has been home to wild canids for thousands of years. Come learn about their habitats, diet, distribution, and behavior. Get a close-up look at coyote, fox and wolf skulls.
