During the
second world war Glen Evans was active in the search for mineral deposits in
Texas. Especially those of importance to the war effort. We have included a
selection of the minerals that were collected by him during that time. Some
of these specimens have formed integral parts of Museum exhibits, and others
important sources of data for publications.
It is not enough
to know that a particular mineral exists in an area; the extent and quality
of that mineral must be analyzed in order for geologists to assess whether
the mineral is an economic deposit. Glen was required to make those
recommendations in the reports that he wrote for the Bureau of Economic
Geology.
