The Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections SPNHC is an international group with a mission to "improve preservation, conservation, and management of natural history collections to ensure their continuing value to society". In addition to several major reference books, many useful, and widely referenced, papers are published in their primary journal Collection Forum.
Northeast Document Conservation Center
NEDCC is a regional conservation group with particular emphasis on the preservation of paper-based materials.
Although primarily focussed on paper their preservation leaflets provide useful basics for all collections.
The National Park Service
NPS manages many small museums and has a well established Museum Management Program.
Their Conserv O Grams cover all manner of topics including a pertinent range of articles specific to the needs of natural history collections. The Museum Handbook is a guide "how to manage, preserve, document, access and use museum collections" with a handy section specific to paleontology.
Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS) funds many collection related projects and provides useful online resources for looking after all types of collections.
The American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC) provides a wealth of useful material much of which is available online especially via the CoOL section.
The American Association of Museums (AAM) is another good resource.
The Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) has much relevant information in technical bulletins, their e-Services requires a one time fee for non-Canadian clients.
American Conservation Consortium is another useful source of preservation and conservation services.
SYNTHESIS:Synthesis of systematic resources is a European project that helps to connect taxonomic facilities and spread best practices between institutions and researchers.
