Student
Miriam Axelrod

"Miriam is a junior at UT, working toward a BS degree in geology. She plans to either go into the Peace Corps or go to law school after graduation, but can't decide which one would be the most challenging avenue to take. Since childhood, she has had an interest in rocks and how they formed. An avid rock climber, her main interest is the mid Cretaceous fauna of Texas, since she spends most of her weekends climbing on them. TMM provides her with an opportunity to sharpen her identification skills, and learn which organisms proliferated in the Central Texas area. She incorporates this knowledge into her sport climbing and feels that it enriches her experiences."

Miriam was sponsored by the Geology Foundation of the Department of Geological Sciences at UT Austin, through the Thomas and Ray Burke Student Job Program.

Comment: Miriam spent much time complete with dust mask and gloves, cleaning hundreds of grimy specimens in the collections moving them from the worst of conditions to the next best level available. She also entered pages of catalog details about those specimens into our new database.
Miriam graduated and went on to work as a geophysicist for Schlumberger
