Melissa Gunter
"Melissa is an undergraduate at UT, and a
geologist in training. She finds it difficult to choose which aspect
of geology she would like to pursue, as she wants to experience
everything the field has to offer. Thus far she has succeeded in
acquiring experience from mass spectrometry of basalts to working with the TMM collections, which is currently
satisfying an interest in non-vertebrate paleontology."
Comment: Melissa Gunter was sponsored by the Institute of
Museum and Library Services (IMLS) grant to the Texas Memorial Museum. Her care and concern for these collections was enormous and she helped to develop several projects, not just within conservation. She played a major role in the creation of an excellent interactive CD, IMPACT:TEXAS .
She graduated and went on to get an MA in the Conservation of Natural History Collections at the Royal College of Art in London. She is now a conservator intern in Museum Victoria in Melborne Australia studying the offgassing of formaldehyde from freeze dried specimens.
