Phyllis Fairbanks Hasson, Ph.D.
Phyllis had followed a distinguished geological career before becoming a volunteer at NPL. ( Geology B.A. Mt. Holyoke College; grad work N.Y.U. (with Ellis and Messina at American Museum of Natural History) Ph.D. Princeton University in Geology (Biostratigraphy) 1983.)
She was employed by Texas Co. Houston; Geological Society of America; Woods Hole Oceanographic (with Phleger and Ericson); Univ. Chicago Gol Dept.; Arabian American Oil Co. (ARAMCO); Princeton Univ (curator); Univ of Florida (Gainsville, post-doc). before retiring to Austin.
Comment: Phyllis worked in the type collection where she searched for misplaced specimens, ensuring that this important section of our collection was as complete as possible. She inventoried nearly half the collection checking each specimen against the literature. Her work has been of great help and has brought to light many displaced specimens and untracked old loans for which previous paperwork was inadequate.
