Report (250 words max):

In 2010, the Texas Speleological Survey continued to update the Texas database with now over 5,400 caves. We continue to seek data from Texas cavers for the database including maps, sketches, notes and photographs.  The website has proved beneficial in keeping Texas cavers updated on projects and contacts.  It is also the vehicle for disseminating data via formal and informal data requests form agencies, environmental contractors and individuals.  Our Editor, Jerry Atkinson , has an aggressive but realistic publication schedule to have several new reports and reprints of out-of-print publications ready in 2011.  TSS has coordinated with a number of state and federal agencies, consulting firms, students, and cavers, providing data to support research, exploration, conservation, and education, and has received considerable data in return.  TSS has upgraded our compact disk now with maps of over 1200 Texas Caves, has produced a compact dist with out of print editions, sells 38 cave publications and a children’s coloring book about caves.

NSS members manual copy (250 words max):

TSS is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to the management of Texas cave data in support of research, exploration, education, and conservation.  Its office is housed at The University of Texas at Austin, which supports TSS through the Texas Memorial Museum.  Currently over 11,500 Texas caves and karst records; of these 5,400 are caves.  TSS has two publication series.  TSS Bulletins are reports on caves and karst regions in Texas, include updated reprints of past publications, and TSS Monographs are for major works on Texas karst, including reformatted and quality-printed dissertations and theses.  A regular column in the Texas Speleological Association's newsletter, an active Internet web site, office data-cataloguing work sessions, and an annual technical workshop are all ways that TSS is supporting and encouraging Texas caving, while generating more information for its database.  Cave inventory projects are being conducted using Texas cavers under agreements with state and federal agencies.  The TSS website has been selected by the SciLinks program of the National Science Teachers Association as a quality educational website.
