The National Speleological Society is nationwide organization with over 12,000 members and 200 grottos.  The NSS does more than any other caving organization to study, explore, and conserve cave and karst resources; protect access to caves; encourage responsible management of caves and their unique environments; and promote responsible caving.

NSS Conservation & Management Section

Preserving and protecting caves and karst for cavers, scientific research, and the general public is one of the most important goals of the National Speleological Society.

NSS Grottos all States

While the TSS maintains a list of Texas Grottos, this NSS site lists Grottos and their contacts in all states whether they have a website or not.

NSS Regions

The TSS works closely with the Texas Speleological Association and other Texas organizations.  This link provides a list and contact information for all NSS recognized regions.

NSS Sections

There are a number of specialized sections affiliated with the NSS.  These are made up of cavers with specialized interest in caving.  Examples are Cave Diving, Geology and Surveying.

NSS Survey Groups

In almost every state containing a number of caves there is a group of NSS cavers actively maintaining data on the caves and pursuing further exploration. Only a few of these have asked for NSS charters as Internal Organizations; others are recognized NSS Study Groups and are independent.  The TSS is an NSS affiliated survey group.
