Aggie Speleological Society

ASS is a recognized student organization at Texas A&M University.  The club mainly consists of currently enrolled students as well as a few unofficial members from outside the university.  Trips are made almost every weekend  during the school year and randomly when school is out.  The grotto participates in many caving projects, works with various caving organizations performing volunteer work, and visits many caves throughout Texas.  Once or twice a year during the summer or holidays, ASS will take a trip to Mexico or New Mexico.

Bexar Grotto

The Bexar Grotto is an active grotto with a diverse and dedicated group of people.  Many of the members provide local educational outreach and are active in cave management and conservation activities.  The grotto supports a number of ongoing caving projects including:

Comal Country Grotto

The Comal County Grotto is an informal group of persons interested in caves, caverns, karst, exploration and cave rescue. We have no formal meetings established - just friends getting together.

The Cowtown Grotto is a local chapter of the National Speleological Society based in Fort Worth, Texas. The goals of the grotto are to further discovery, exploration, survey, scientific study, conservation, and education as related to the field of speleology, especially in Texas, the surrounding states, and in Mexico. Additionally, we promote safe caving techniques and positive landowner relations, along with the purposes and policies of the NSS. We work like heck to have fun while doing all this stuff.

The Dallas/Fort Worth (D/FW) Grotto is a chapter of the National Speleological Society. Many members of the D/FW Grotto participate in other organizations such as the Cave Research Foundation, and the Texas Speleological Association. The grotto is active in Texas, Mexico, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. The focus of many projects that members are involved in are cave conservation, restoration, surveying, and research.

Grotto members go caving these days in Texas, New Mexico, and Mexico.  Many trips consist of recreational and work projects ranging from gate building to restoration.

Lubbock Area Grotto

LAG has been active in caving, cave restoration, cave conservation, cave surveying, public education and exploration.  Members go caving in Texas and New Mexico, but mostly in southeast New Mexico.  Their main projects are currently to finish the survey of Endless Cave in New Mexico, and surveying several virgin caves in South Texas.

Maverick Grotto

The Maverick Grotto is the local caving club of Fort Worth  and Tarrant County, Texas.  Dedicated to promoting safe, fun, and environmentally conscious cavers, from the North Texas area.  Members participate in various projects around the state.

Permian Basin Speleological Society

The Permian Basin Speleological Society located in the Midland-Odessa area was founded by Tony Grieco and Bill Bentley in October 1983. The grotto is active in West Texas and S.E. New Mexico. Ongoing projects include CRF Carlsbad Caverns, High Guads Restoration Project (HGRP), and the PBSS Rock Haul at Carlsbad Caverns. The grotto also manages several caves in West Texas for friendly ranchers who have given them access for recreational caving and exploration.

The UT Grotto is the oldest caving organization in the state and has been a focus for Texas and Mexico caving for several decades.  The grotto is active in Mexico, Texas, and New Mexico.  After grotto meetings, members typically head to the nearby Posse for refreshments and the after-the-meeting meeting, which has been known to go on until the Posse closes.
