Some visitors have been confused, and assumed free or validated parking near the Texas Natural Science Center's exhibit hall, the Texas Memorial Museum. However, parking access at the University is run by another department. We have no control over policies, procedures, access and fees. Even if you pay for guided tours, make gift shop purchases, are a member of the Friends of the Texas Natural Science Center, etc., YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR PARKING IF YOU USE ANY UNIVERSITY GARAGE. You should pay using the automated system BEFORE you enter your car to leave the garage. Automated machines are located at TWO prominent locations (one each on the 1st and 3rd levels) INSIDE the garage and NOT AT THE EXIT GATES.
Parking is available at The University of Texas at Austin San Jacinto (SJG) parking garage located at 2500 San Jacinto Blvd., just north of the Texas Memorial Museum. Please note: The University’s Parking and Traffic Rules and Regulations state that a vehicle must fit wholly within each parking space- side to side as well as back to front. Especially large vehicles (such as four door trucks with hitches or other attachments) should park on the roof of the San Jacinto parking garage. We regret that the Center cannot validate parking tickets.
The hours of operation for The University of Texas at Austin San Jacinto garage are 6 am until 10:30 pm, 7 days/week. Rates, hours of operation, and additional information can be found on the University's Visitor Parking page.
There are two handicapped parking spaces near the accessible entrance of the Museum; "D" Permits for Handicapped Parking are available at any guard booth on campus.
The handicapped-accessible entrance to the Museum is just south of the main entrance, on the Museum's east side, near the service driveway. The entrance can be opened remotely by the Museum's security guard. If you park in the parking garage, exit the garage to the east from Level 3 and follow the sidewalk south along Trinity Street. Look for signs to the handicapped-accessible entrance.
Parking is generally unrestricted around the Texas Memorial Museum during the weekend. Check parking signs for spaces not controlled during off hours. Please be aware that in the case of special events, such as football games, parking around the Museum is extremely limited.
Free bus parking is available across I-35, off of Comal St. south of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Buses may no longer drop off passengers on Trinity St.
