The popular observation deck atop the 28th floor of the Tower was closed to students and to the public. Between 1974 and 1999, very few had seen the spectacular views of this beautiful campus and city that can be enjoyed from there.

Several UT Austin staff members along with employees of Apple Computer are granted special permission to go up to the observation deck to take photographs for Project iTOWER.

1995

Belinda Gonzalez Lehmkuhle, a TeamWeb member conceives the idea for a Web-based virtual tour around the observation deck. She names it Scenes from the Top. Belinda was part of the group that made the trek in June, and she took all of the still photographs.

Scenes from the Top is announced. Though the observation deck remained closed, it was "virtually open"-- on the Web. TeamWeb cordially invites you to take this special guided tour.

VR movies photographed and created by Katherine Kramer are added to the tour. Kat was one of the Apple Computer employees who went up to take pictures in June 1995.

The University of Texas celebrates its 116th birthday and the long awaited re-opening of the Tower observation deck. With its brand new 200-foot stainless steel lattice enclosing the deck, visitors can safely enjoy the beautiful scenes from the top of the Tower.
