PROJECTS COMMEMORATING THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY AND SUPPORT OPPORTUNITIES

The Texas Union Advisory Council, a group of dedicated alumni and friends who advocate on behalf of the Union both on and off campus, successfully realized several important goals in commemoration of the 75th Anniversary:

The Sinclair Society was established to encourage alumni to make planned gifts to the Union. Donors are recognized on slate and limestone plaque in the Presidential Lobby. Names are hand-chiseled and gilded by an artisan stone carver. For more information, or to make a planned gift, visit The Sinclair Society online.

Grants for Active Student Participants (GRASP) endowment: The Council raised more than $40,000 to establish a permanent endowment to encourage and facilitate participation in Texas Union committee and programs by providing stipends to students who have demonstrated leadership qualities, an enthusiasm for campus citizenship, and solid academic performance.

The Presidential Medallion Project revitalized the tradition of memorializing former university presidents with portrait medallions displayed in the Presidential Lobby. The project was funded by the University Co-operative Society.

The Texas Union Permanent Art Collection endowment was created by a gift from Pisces Foods LP. It will enhance the existing art collection by providing permanent funding to acquire original art by recognized artists.

The Ring of Honor and The Order of the Texas Star were created to recognize individuals, corporations and foundations who have made significant, cumulative contributions to the Union. Donor names are hand-carved into slate tiles inlaid in the South Lobby.

Additional support opportunities:

Student Awards Endowment: Additional gifts to the endowment will provide increased stipends for the recipients of the J. J. "Jake" Pickle Citizenship Award, the Shirley Bird Perry Leadership Award, and the C. C. "Jitter" Nolen Spirit Award. The annual Spirit and Leadership awards recognize outstanding volunteer members of the Student Events Center. The prestigious, campus-wide Pickle Award annually recognizes a student whose cumulative contributions over a period of time to campus life best exemplify the high standards of leadership and service that were the hallmarks of the life and career of Congressman J. J. "Jake" Pickle.

Pal—"Make A Difference" Endowment in The Texas Union: Established by Jaspreet Singh Pal, BBA '95, to sponsor the annual Pal—Make A Difference Award. The award encourages university leadership and public service by recognizing a student whose individual program or initiative has made a significant contribution to campus life or the broader community.

Program Endowment: Fosters leadership development through special event programming-one of the Union's core functions. The endowment provides funding for the fifteen committees of the Student Events Center to support student programs and activities. Contributions to the endowment will provide permanent support for student programs and activities.
