Madrigal Script
Each year UT's Madrigal Dinner Committee looks for a script to perform for their annual Christmas themed show. For nearly 30 years, MDC has put together a theater production with a choir concert and a four course meal, and this could be your chance to be a part of it. Watch here for script submission instructions for next year.
This year's submissions were due in early May 2009. Here is some information you might find useful.
The usual format of the show is as follows:
1. Choir sings carols for guests waiting in the foyer to be seated.2. 1-3 minute scene on balcony to introduce play and invite guests into ballroom
3. Guests are seated and small intro for greeting song
4. 1st act
5. Break for choir performance and wassail
6. 2nd act
7. Break for choir performance and salad
8. 3rd act
9. Break for choir performance and dinner
10. Specialty acts
11. 4th act
12. Break for dessert and choir concert
13. Grand finale!
Some guidelines to follow:
- Keep it light! There are mothers, children, and priests in the audience (Think "Princess Bride")
- Keep it Funny! We don't take ourselves seriously... so our script shouldn't either!
- Keep it Simple! There will be small children, anything too complex and they won't laugh.
- Have a character designated to do the introductions during the first act
- Make the breaks smooth, give the choir a reason to get up there!
- Try something New! We'll probably like it!
- Be flexible!!! If selected, be ready to watch us put your script through the blender as we adapt it to our cast and our needs!
