Jeffrey E. Tsai, B.A. 1997, is a federal prosecutor with the Public Integrity Section of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. He prosecutes and investigates cases involving federal fraud and corruption crimes in jurisdictions across the country.
Jeff previously served as senior counsel to the assistant attorney general in charge of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. In that role, he advised the assistant attorney general on financial fraud enforcement policy and directed the Criminal Division’s participation in the president’s Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force. Jeff was also an assistant U.S. attorney for several years in the Southern District of Florida, where he most recently served as a deputy chief in the district’s U.S. Attorney’s Office in Miami. Prior to public service, Jeff was an attorney in private practice in northern California. He began his legal career as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Vanessa D. Gilmore in his hometown of Houston.
A former student body president and friar, Jeff stays actively involved with the university. In addition to serving on the School of Undergraduate Studies Advisory Council, Jeff is a member of the national board of directors of the University of Texas Ex-Students’ Association and the Texas Union Alumni Advisory Council.
