Discuss your general career path since graduating from UT.
After graduation, I moved to Dallas to work in advertising. While working in advertising I became very passionate about online advertising and social media in particular. After a few months in Dallas, I moved back to Austin to work at the recently opened Facebook office. I have worked at Facebook ever since in multiple roles spanning from sales support to data analysis on our ads integrity team. Currently I am working at the office headquarters managing projects to identify and fix broken features.
How did your BDP experience influence your career path and interests?
The BDPs taught me to embrace new challenges and transfer lessons from seemingly unrelated experiences. In my career at Facebook I have worked on a diverse set of problems and I have been able to excel by transferring the skills and knowledge from previous work to new challenges.
In what ways did an interdisciplinary education prepare you for what you are currently doing?
Much of what I do now is focused on working cross-functionally across the company to push projects to completion. Through the Ethics & Leadership BDP, I learned a lot about working with and motivating different types of people. This has been an invaluable skill and something I will continue to refine throughout my career.
