O M 337: Procurement and Supplier Management

Department of Operations Management

What substantial writing projects will your students complete during the course?

There are a minimum of 10 homework assignments, of which at least 6 are 500 word assignments that require substantial research, reasoning, and recommendations regarding critical topics in Procurement and Supplier Management. The most substantial component of the grade for this course is a major case study that spans the entire semester and requires a team of up to 5 students to collaborate on research, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations on a case that is based substantially on a real business situation with a large, international retailer.

What kinds of feedback will students receive from the instructor, and what opportunities will they be given to revise their writing?

At least two of the homework assignments will be reviewed by the course instructor for writing proficiency as well as content. These assignments will be returned to the students for review, rewriting, and resubmission.

What amount of the final course grade will come from the written work (minimum one-third for a three-hour course)?

Greater than 50%.

What opportunities will students have to read each other’s work and offer constructive criticism?

One homework assignment with high written content will require the students to include a review and critique from another student. The final submission will include the revised work as well as a copy of the draft with critiques. The final case project will require students to exchange their draft work for critique and feedback before submitting the final paper and a copy of the critiqued work for their final submission.
