Academic Advising

Call 512-232-8400 or stop by the office to make an advising appointment. Appointments cannot be scheduled via email. Appointments last for 30 minutes. Learn about CSA&CC’s registration advising policies.

Students enrolled in the School of Undergraduate Studies are assigned an academic advisor. You must meet with your advisor at least twice a semester for a major exploration appointment and a registration appointment.

Weekly emails from your advisor contain important academic information, deadlines, and events.

Major Exploration

• Explore your interests, discover your strengths, and find related academic paths at UT Austin
• Learn how to declare a major

Registration

• Discuss classes you would like to register for next semester
• Get the advising bar on your Registration Information Sheet removed so you can register on time
• Learn about CSA&CC’s registration advising policies
• Discuss taking courses at other institutions
• Find out about claiming credit for AP, IB, CLEP exams

Academic Planning

• Discuss internal transfer applications
• Learn about finding an internship or volunteering
• Plan for study abroad
• Ask questions about double majoring or adding a certificate

Academic Difficulty

• Learn campus resources that can help you improve your grades
• Discuss dropping a class or changing a class to pass/fail and initiate the corresponding processes if possible
• Find out more about Q-drops and OTE and how to use them

Scholastic Probation

• Learn about what it means to be on scholastic probation
• Meet with your assigned advisor more frequently for hour-long appointments to ensure you improve your grades
