All FIGs cover topics and issues related to first-year students and connect students with the many resources and opportunities available at the university.
A college-based FIG is comprised of students enrolled in the same college and sometimes the same major. The courses are chosen by each college, and will satisfy both core curriculum and major required degree requirements. A peer mentor and staff facilitator lead each FIG’s weekly seminar.
A pre-professional FIG is made up of students enrolled in any college or program at UT. These FIGs are organized around common themes and pre-professional programs that fall outside of the traditional academic discipline. These FIGs give students the opportunity to explore a broad range of interests as well as network outside of their particular college. The courses chosen for each FIG satisfy core curriculum degree requirements for all UT students.
