Flag Criteria & Interpretations

The University of Texas at Austin believes that every undergraduate should be exposed to a set of important skills and experiences that will prepare them for a complex world. Unlike the core requirements, Flags are taught across the curriculum so that students learn about writing or ethical decision-making, for example, in the context of their own disciplines.

Faculty Council governs the Flags and outlined the criteria for each flag. UC is charged with interpreting the Flag criteria and has delegated authority to other cross-college faculty committees to oversee each Flag.
