Prospective Longhorn Scholars
What is the Longhorn Scholars Program?
Longhorn Scholars is a four-year honors program for top 10% students
from selected Texas high schools whose graduates have historically
been underrepresented at The University of Texas at Austin. All
Longhorn Scholars have been awarded scholarships to attend UT Austin.
Who can participate?
Participation in the Longhorn Scholars Program is by invitation.
To be eligible, you must graduate from a participating
Texas high school and be the recipient of a qualifying scholarship
(including the Longhorn Opportunity Scholarship, the Presidential
Achievement Scholarship, or the Terry Scholarship).
How do I apply?
Students from
participating Texas high schools should complete the
Texas Common Application for Scholarships for Entering Freshman Students. For more information about the Longhorn

What are the benefits of being a Longhorn Scholar?
Longhorn Scholars enjoy numerous benefits throughout their four
years at UT:

In addition to your academic advisor, you will have the support
of an advisor in the Longhorn Scholars Program office. From freshman year to
graduation, your Longhorn Scholars advisor will work with you to choose
courses, plan your degree, get study abroad and scholarship
information, and help you take advantage of all that UT has
to offer.
Peer mentoring
The Longhorn Scholars Mentor Program offers the opportunity to
learn from experienced studentsand to share your wisdom
with future generations of Longhorn Scholars.

Special events throughout the year encourage Longhorn Scholars
to share their college experiences both inside and outside the
classroom. Special events also allow you to get to know professors,
advisors, and staff, all of whom can share their educational and
professional experience.
A diverse curriculum of small and large classes taught by outstanding
professors
As a Longhorn Scholar, you will be able to choose classes from the Longhorn Scholars Curriculum, which is made up of smaller classes and classes taught by outstanding professors, including the Academy of Distinguished Teachers.
Opportunities to make connections across disciplines that integrate classroom, research, and internship experiences
Your Longhorn Scholars advisor will introduce you to innovative cross-disciplinary
programs such as the Bridging Disciplines
Programs, which can help you tailor your degree to reflect
your passions and goals.

you to develop your knowledge, explore potential careers, and
build lasting relationships with faculty mentors.
