The School of Undergraduate Studies welcomed its first class of enrolled students with barbeque on Tuesday evening, the night before classes began. The Gone to Texas event included t-shirts, door prizes, including an iPod, and culminated in a march to the Tower. Activities included a mini-marketplace of UGS programs, a photo booth with Texas-themed props, and remarks from Dean Woodruff and UGS Council President Dorrell Willis. The event took place on the Texas Union patio.
728 first-year students, along with 65 transfers, are currently enrolled in the School of Undergraduate Studies. The school was created to house undergraduates who are undecided on their academic path at the Univeristy of Texas at Austin. Undergraduates will spend up to four semesters in Undergraduate Studies before transferring to another college or school.
The school offers strategic advising to help its students find alternative paths to majors and career goals, as well as a first-year experience, made up of First-year Interest Groups (FIGs) and Signature Courses, designed to introduce our students to the best UT has to offer.
