When University of Texas at Austin students begin the spring semester on Tuesday, January 20, the School of Undergraduate Studies will have more and better-organized information available on its web site, thanks to a recent overhaul and redesign of the School’s online presence.
Much-needed additions, like the creation of web pages for the new Center for Strategic Advising, were the impetus for the redesign of the site. New areas on the core curriculum and course flags serve to detail curriculum requirements that pertain to all undergraduates. An important enhancement for students wanting to know more about their degree requirements, these pages will also be a welcome addition for the faculty and staff who advise them. Also new is an in-depth section for faculty on teaching writing.
The site’s new navigation allows users to find information by topic or by the group to whom the information pertains. A prospective student could look through a compilation of resources for high school students interested in applying to the School of Undergraduate Studies, or jump directly to reading about First-year Interest Groups.
Other minor changes, like a comprehensive staff directory, a revised mission, and the new School logo will premiere along with features designed to make the site more dynamic. The home page will feature rotating elements: feature stories, student profiles, definitions of Undergraduate Studies terms, and videos featuring professors discussing teaching methods.
Though the School has had a web presence since its inception, this is the first time that all of the areas housed in the school will share a consistent navigation system and a common look for each program’s home page.
