The University of Texas at Austin Chapters of Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma (ALDPES) were awarded the prestigious Maintaining the Flame award in recognition of their achievements during the 2010-2011 academic year. ALDPES is a national society that honors academic excellence during a student’s first year in college. The UT ALDPES chapters are supported by the University Honors Center
The award celebrates outstanding chapters that have shown continued excellence in chapter programming, communications, and service. The UT Austin chapter does ongoing, extensive service work across campus and Austin, including Longhorn Halloween, Race for the Cure, collections for the Michah 6 Food Pantry, and more. The chapter is also highly visible on campus, serving as the exclusive student hosts for Honors Day, and awarded its first local chapter scholarships in spring 2011. This year, the National Council of Alpha Lambda Delta selected seven winners out of more than 270 chapters across the country. The award was presented by Dr. Susan Huffman, President of Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society, at the annual Alpha Lambda Delta National Leadership Conference.
Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma (ALDPES) recognize scholastic achievement during students’ first years at The University of Texas at Austin. Each society aims to encourage superior academic achievement among students in their first years at higher education institutions, promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning, and assist women and men in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for societal roles. The UT chapters of Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma are supported by the University Honors Center in the School of Undergraduate Studies. For more information, please visit the chapter page.
