New Sanger Endowment Announced at Dedication

Interim Dean Larry Abraham announced the new Sanger Learning Assistance Fund Endowment, to be created with funds donated by Philip Asher Sanger. The endowment will support a Strategic Learning Program that address the specific needs of University of Texas students with learning disabilities or attention disorders. The Sanger family has a history of dyslexia, which has not hindered its members’ life successes, and the family wished to assist bright students with learning disabilities. The Sanger Center’s work with other students, evaluated through interviews with the Center’s staff, student tutors, and students who have gone to the Center for academic assistance, convinced the Sanger family that the Sanger Center was the right place for the endowment.

The endowment was announced at the Sanger Center’s dedication, which took place on November 12. The Sanger family, along with student tutors and School of Undergraduate Studies staff, celebrated new renovations that expand student services. The Sanger Center became part of Undergraduate Studies in the fall of 2011. It will serve more than 10,000 students this year. At left, Marjorie Sanger and her great-granddaughter.
