Grants for Students Exploring Academics & Careers

The School of Undergraduate Studies offers competitive grants to students seeking funds to promote academic and career exploration. Grants can be requested in any amount up to $2,000, provided that the student carefully considers and succeeds in communicating how his or her academic or career plans will benefit from the experience. Applications are currently being accepted. Deadline: Friday, March 29

Past Explorations

We encourage recipients of the Summer Exploration Grant to be creative with their planned exploration. Since the program’s inception in 2010, recipients have put their grants toward a variety of diverse experiences, including:

  • Teaching English to elementary students in Cuzco, Peru
  • Participating in the Halliburton Summer Business Foundations Institute
  • Studying medicinal plants in Cuzco, Peru

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must

  • Be a current University of Texas at Austin student enrolled in the School of Undergraduate Studies in spring 2013
  • Have completed no more than four long semesters at The University of Texas at Austin prior to applying for funding
  • Propose Exploration experiences that take place between May and August 2013

Applying

Please submit the following materials in person to the University Honors Center (Carothers, room 23) by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 29. Visit the grant site for complete information about applying

  • Summer 2013 UGS Exploration Grant Application Form
  • Current resume
  • One-page personal statement describing the specific goals of the summer experience or project and specifying how the student’s academic and/or career path may become clearer as a result
  • Current academic transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
  • One-page detailed budget not to exceed $2,000. Budget items should clearly relate to the experience and may include program costs, tuition, travel, living expenses, etc
  • Letter of recommendation from a professor or TA
  • Optional: additional documentation that will help us to evaluate the proposed experience (optional)
