Patty Micks, senior program coordinator for the First-year Experience Office, has been awarded the Eyes of Texas Excellence Award for the spring 2014 semester. Chosen by the student members of The Eyes of Texas, a secret organization, the award is given to ten faculty or staff members each semester in recognition of their contributions to student life at UT.
“Your hard work and genuine passion for students is apparent, and you do amazing things for first-year students at the University of Texas,” reads the letter sent to Micks. “The First-year Experience Office is an integral part of UT’s mission and offers student unparalleled opportunities.”
The award goes on to say: “In addition, your work to better serve and represent UT’s transfer students has not gone unnoticed. This population is lucky to have such a dedicated supporter and advocate in you. The Eyes of Texas sincerely thank you for all that you have done and will continue to do to make UT a better place.”
Micks graduated from Rutgers University with a B.A. in art history, received her masters in higher education administration from The University of Texas at Austin. She started her career on the Forty Acres as an academic advisor in the College of Liberal Arts and worked for several departments across campus before becoming the Senior Program Coordinator for the First-year Experience Office. This fall, Micks will begin the Ph.D. program in higher education administration at UT.
We are proud of this recognition of the work she does on behalf of first-year students at UT.
