The Writing Flag

All UGS 302 Signature Courses carry the Writing Flag. Some UGS 303 (large-section format) Signature Courses do too. The Writing Flag is part of the University of Texas at Austin’s Core Curriculum Requirements.

In a class with a Writing Flag, you will:

  • write regularly—several times during the semester—and complete writing projects that are substantial.
  • receive detailed feedback from your instructor about how to improve your writing, and revise at least one paper after receiving feedback.
  • work with your peers by reading their writing and discussing how to improve it, and by listening to their suggestions for your own work.
  • receive at least one-third of the final course grade based on your written work.

You can expect to do a significant amount of writing in your Signature Course regardless of whether it carries a Writing Flag.
