“I love the students’ moment of clarity when they understand the material.”

What has been the most rewarding part about working at the Sanger Learning Center?
I love the students’ moment of clarity when they understand the material, reword and paraphrase my explanation, and apply the information to new problems.

What has been the most unexpected or surprising aspect of your job?
I have found that being a tutor has helped me better myself as a student and future professional. My content prowess, responsibility, adaptability, and communication skills have improved exponentially since working at Sanger.

What advice would you give to incoming students about how to be academically successful at UT?
Don’t allow yourself room to humor excuses. For example, if you watch Netflix for hours the day before an exam and get a poor grade, you can specifically pinpoint Netflix as the reason you didn’t succeed. If you use that time to study instead and still get a poor grade, you can at least work on optimizing effective studying.
