UGS Council President Selected as City Hall Fellow

Emily Smith, president of Undergraduate Studies Council and former UGS student, has been selected as a Longhorn Center for Civic Engagement-City Hall Fellow for the spring of 2014.

Smith will work hands-on with the Austin community through service-learning projects while taking a course titled Community Organizing and Leadership Development in Austin. The fellows program introduces the students to community and city leaders who advise them on community building, facilitation, and team-building.

As president of UGS Council, Smith’s positivity and dedication to the school has increased the council’s student participation and influence. “Members of student councils have a large say in what happens in the colleges and schools on this campus,” said Brent Iverson, dean of the School of Undergraduate Studies. “As president of UGS Council, Emily Smith has been a strong leader and her voice has been important in shaping UGS policy.”

Smith is a junior majoring in sociology and completing the Business Foundations Certificate.
