Hiring Faculty

Approval to Recruit: Obtaining and Identifying Funds

Before formal recruiting begins for any position, each position must be approved by the dean and submitted to the UGS Business office for processing. Approval to hire and fund temporary faculty must be done in the late spring in conjunction with the budgeting process for the upcoming fiscal year. This policy covers appointments funded by the UGS budget and by grants.

Recruiting Temporary Faculty

A formal recruitment process is not required for temporary faculty positions. Instead, we must have an ongoing general ad posted on the UT Austin Faculty Recruitment Website for non-tenured positions.

Deadlines

Deadlines for faculty appointment positions are:
Fall: July 31
Spring: November 30
Summer: April 30

Work-study students

Hiring work-study students benefits the students and your department. However, the guidelines for hiring, scheduling, and paying work-study students are different than UT Austin’s staff policies, so please review them before initiating hiring.
