Early Readiness High School Graduation Option - Requirements

For the 2012-13 pilot year, students must demonstrate mastery using one method in each subject area listed below, which reflect placement standards for various entry-level courses at The University of Texas at Austin. Students may also be required to take a college readiness assessment specified by the University.

For the below tests, the following abbreviations apply:

  • AP: Advanced Placement
  • CLEP: College Level Examination Program
  • IB: International Baccalaureate
    • HL: Higher Level Examination
    • SL: Standard Level Examination

Students who are pursuing an IB Diploma are eligible to apply for an Early Readiness certificate based on qualifying test scores on Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) exams. Students who are pursuing an IB Certificate are eligible to apply for an Early Readiness certificate based on qualifying test scores on Higher Level (HL) exams only1.

Mathematics

  • AP Calculus AB: 5 or higher
  • AP Calculus BC: 3 or higher
  • IB Mathematics at HL or SL (Diploma): 4 or higher
  • IB Mathematics at HL (Certificate): 5 or higher

English

  • ACT Combined English and Writing: 26 or higher
  • AP English: Language and Composition: 3 or higher
  • AP English: Literature and Composition: 4 or higher
  • SAT Writing Section: 600 or higher
  • IB English Language A1 or A2 at HL or SL (Diploma): 4 or higher
  • IB English Language A1 or A2 at HL (Certificate): 5 or higher

Science

Proficiency in one subject area is required.

  • AP Biology: 5
  • AP Chemistry: 4 or higher
  • AP Environmental Science: 4 or higher
  • AP Physics B: 3 or higher
  • IB Biology at HL or SL (Diploma): 6 or higher
  • IB Biology at HL (Certificate): 6 or higher
  • IB Chemistry at HL or SL (Diploma): 4 or higher
  • IB Chemistry at HL (Certificate): 4 or higher
  • IB Physics at HL or SL (Diploma): 5 or higher
  • IB Physics at HL (Certificate): 5 or higher
  • SAT Subject Test in Physics: 680 or higher

Social Studies

Proficiency in one subject area is required.

  • AP Economics: Macroeconomics: 4 or higher
  • AP Economics: Microeconomics: 4 or higher
  • AP US History: 4 or higher
  • CLEP Principles of Macroeconomics: 59 or higher
  • CLEP Principles of Microeconomics: 60 or higher
  • IB Economics at HL or SL (Diploma): 5 or higher
  • IB Economics at HL (Certificate): 5 or higher
  • IB History of the Americas at HL or SL (Diploma): 6 or higher

Foreign Language

Proficiency in one language is required.

  • AP French Language: 3 or higher
  • AP German Language: 3 or higher
  • AP Latin: 4 or higher
  • AP Spanish Language: 3 or higher
  • AP Spanish Literature: 4 or higher
  • IB French Language at HL or SL (Diploma): A1, A2, or B: 4 or higher
  • IB French Language at HL (Certificate): A1, A2, or B: 4 or higher
  • IB German Language at HL or SL (Diploma): A1, A2, or B: 4 or higher
  • IB German Language at HL (Certificate): A1, A2, or B: 4 or higher
  • IB Spanish Language at HL or SL (Diploma): A1, A2, or B: 4 or higher
  • IB Spanish Language at HL (Certificate): A1, A2, or B: 4 or higher
  • SAT Subject Test in Latin: 630 or higher

1 In order to claim course credit for these International Baccalaureate scores at an institution of higher education, however, students must have been awarded the IB Diploma or Certificate.
