What if I'm not exempt?

If you are not exempt from TSI you are required to take one of the tests of basic skills approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THEA, THEA quick test, COMPASS, ACCUPLACER, OR ASSET) before your first semester at UT Austin. But you may not have to take all three sections. For example, if you are exempt from the math TSI requirement, but not reading and writing, you will need to take the reading and writing sections. Some students will need to take one or two sections, and some will need to take all three sections (reading, writing, and math.) Your test scores will determine whether you will be required to enroll in Developmental Studies. Please contact us if you have any questions about the program or your individual situation.
